Flag Etiquette
ALA South Dakota Girls State places an important focus on flag etiquette. Each day, the Delegates will actively participate in raising and lowering the American flag and the South Dakota state flag. Once lowered the Delegates are responsible for folding the flag appropriately and retiring the colors for the evening. There is also the opportunity for the Delegate to advance and retire our nations flag at the beginning and end of each general assembly. Respecting our flag and what it represents is a huge part of the ALA Girls State experience.

Speakers
Invited speakers discuss and explain many of our patriotic practices, importance of supporting our veterans, and of course why being a part of such a program can be so beneficial to your own life. Each speaker has a different focus that can inspire our Delegates to appreciate what we sometimes take for granted - our freedom.

Interactions & Opportunities
Throughout the week, Delegates have the chance to visit with members of our active military, veterans, and family members of those who serve. Having a positive working relationship gives our Delegates the opportunity to build a personal connection to our countries history of those who protect our freedoms.
